How does Laser Tattoo removal work?
Our Q-Switched NdYag laser effectively removes most tattoos in a series of treatments. The Laser emits a specific pulse of light which is preferentially absorbed by the ink colour that is being targeted. The light enters the skin at speed too fast to heat the tissues (billionths of a second). This produces a microscopic shock wave that shatters the ink particle. The body now recognizes these smaller particles as something that should not be there, and the particles are removed naturally by the body’s elimination system.
Why does a Tattoo remain for years?
Tattoo ink particles are too large for the body’s immune system to destroy, and so instead it encapsulates the ink particles with a network of collagen fibers while the skin heals. And so your tattoo remains over the years.
Can the laser treat all colours?
White, Yellow, and bright colours present a challenge and may not be able to be removed. The lighter inks can be covered very easily, and many people seek to cover over an old tattoo or refresh their designs.
How many treatments will I need?
Due to the nature of this procedure, it is impossible to predict exactly how many treatments will be needed for complete results. Some amateur tattoos can be removed in 3 sessions, and other professional tattoos may take ten to fifteen sessions. How quickly your ink fades depends on several factors, including the colour of your tattoo, the type of ink used, and how your body responds to the treatment.
How far apart are the treatments?
Your body needs time to break down and remove the tattoo ink pigments after each treatment, and this process takes time. You will typically schedule your treatments 4-6 weeks apart.
What will my skin look like after each treatment?
Your skin will most likely be red and may look like you have a mild sunburn. This typically goes away after a few hours. There may also be some bruising, and at times with certain inks, there may be some blistering that usually heals in about a week. After each treatment, you will be given detailed instructions as to how to care for the treated area.
Will the Laser Tattoo Removal hurt?
Patients have reported that the sensation is similar to a rubber band snapping quickly on the skin. To make each patient comfortable, we offer a topical anaesthetic cream that can be applied before each session. This makes the experience much less painful.
Does the Tattoo Removal leave scars?
The NdYag laser leaves virtually no scarring, however, in rare cases, those with scarring disorders such as keloids, have an increased risk of forming a scar. We suggest a small initial test patch, with your first treatment scheduled at four weeks after this should you have any keloid scarring.
